Inaugurating Kalimantan's Largest Plant Nursery With a Ninety-Five Percent Local Workforce

KETAPANG, WEST KALIMANTAN (June 11, 2026) — From carefully tended seeds, long-term economic resilience and ecological renewal take root across West Kalimantan.

A major milestone in sustainable forest management was marked on Thursday, June 11, 2026, as Ketapang Regent Alexander Wilyo officially inaugurated PT Mayawana Persada’s state-of-the-art plant nursery facility in Simpang Hulu District, Ketapang Regency. The opening of one of the largest plant propagation hubs on the island of Borneo was commemorated with the signing of an official plaque alongside corporate management, academic leaders, and customary community elders.

Empowering Rural Communities with Ninety-Five Percent Local Employment

The nursery delivers substantial economic value and career opportunities to hundreds of families residing in adjacent villages. Regent Alexander Wilyo commended PT Mayawana Persada’s priority on local workforce integration as a core component of its concession operations.

"This is the first enterprise in Ketapang that I have visited in person," Regent Alexander Wilyo stated. "I am proud that our regency hosts the largest plant nursery on the island of Borneo. What deserves particular recognition is that among the more than 300 personnel working here, 95 percent are local residents from surrounding villages. I hope PT Mayawana Persada continues to grow and deepen this regional partnership."

The Regent’s commendation reflects the facility's role in translating sustainable landscape operations into direct employment and household economic stability.

A 24-Hectare Silvicultural Base and Academic Research Center

Covering a total operational area of 24 hectares, the facility maintains an annual production capacity of 44 million tree seedlings. Head of the West Kalimantan Provincial Environment and Forestry Agency (DLHK), H. Adi Yani, highlighted that this silvicultural capacity supports systematic landscape restoration and sustainable working forest rotation.

Beyond its ecological function, the nursery serves as an applied research platform for the academic community. Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Tanjungpura (Untan), Dr. Farah Diba, praised the facility’s role in bridging academic forestry science with practical field applications.

"This facility provides practical value for Untan students and alumni alike, functioning both as an advanced industrial internship site and a professional recruitment pipeline," Dr. Farah Diba remarked.

Advancing Regional Progress Through Transparent Collaboration

Attended by Untan Professor Gusti Hardiansyah, Secretary General of the National Dayak Customary Council (MADN) Yakobus Kumis, alongside local village heads and traditional leaders, the inauguration underscored the importance of transparent, community-aligned concession management.
